Introduction by the Chairman of the Council – Cllr Richard Burlend:

Chairman’s Report:

Financial Position.

The financial position of the council at the end of the financial year is £3981.  This compares with £1797 last year.

Road Safety

The Parish Council would like to thank Mr Bob Townsend for all this hard work and dedication in this important role.  In addition he is a unique source of information on village matters. I would like to express the thanks of the Parish Council for the valuable contribution he continues to make

Although I was able to report at the last annual meeting that the main road through our village had been reclassified to become the B1008 there has been little progress in the matter of resigning the route.  This causes problems with traffic encouraged to leave the A120 to follow the route to Chelmsford.  On leaving the A120, the signs then change and show the road leading to Felsted, this causes confusion and has led to a number of incidents.  It is understood that the County Council is to embark on a major review of direction signs in the near future, naturally we welcome this overdue action

Village Handylady

Sarah Jenkins has worked hard to keep the village looking neat and tidy.  She works hard and is greatly appreciated by all.  Her appointment as handy lady was reported in the local newspapers

Speed sign

The speed detecting sign was instrumental in bringing the issue of speeding to public attention.  It was always intended that this sign would be shared with other local villages.  As speeding continues to be a major issue, Delyse has been proactive in securing funding to enable Barnston to purchase its own signs for permanent installation.

Other items of note

a)    Road repairs particularly sunken drains and worn out road markings continue to be an issue.

b)    The Bushel and Sack has reopened as The Stansted Skyline.

c)    The Parish Council recently organised a litter pick which collected about ¼ of a tonne of rubbish.  Many thanks to all who participated
